Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a cause of work disability. It can limit activities such as walking, dressing and bathing for many Americans. Each year, arthritis results in numerous hospitalizations and outpatient visits. Arthritis is not necessarily an old person's disease. Well over half of those suffering with Arthritis are under 65 years of age including thousands of children. Arthritis shows no prejudices it affects people of all ages, racial and ethnic groups. The disease can affect virtually any part of the body.
Many people may worry that arthritis means they won't be able to work or take care of their families. You don't have to just accept the pain of arthritis. While there is not yet a cure for arthritis, much can be done today to reduce pain and boost joint function. Learning how to manage pain over the long term is essential to maintaining a good quality of life. Following these few simple tips can help ease the pain of Arthritis as well as possible slow the progression of the disease.
1. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight puts additional stress on your joints.

3. Use walking sticks, canes or supports to help protect your joints.
4. Try not to do any heavy lifting; this will add additional stress to your joints also.
5. Give it a push! Don't strain yourself pulling heavy objects, try pushing them instead.
